Quote of the week

what a thing to say

“And the urgency is that the longer we wait, the further down the pipeline climate travels and works its way into weather, and once it’s in the weather, it’s there for good.”

Said by Dr Heidi Cullen in testimony to the US House Subcommittee on Energy and Environment a few days ago (h/t WUWT).

This is from the CEO of Climate Central. She has strong credentials in climatology and weather forecasting. Her comment is surprising and deeply concerning because she should have a better understanding of the difference between weather and climate than this comment reveals. From her bio:

Dr Heidi Cullen

In addition to her responsibilities as interim CEO and Director of Communications, Dr. Heidi Cullen serves as a research scientist and correspondent for Climate Central. Dr. Cullen currently reports on climate for PBS NewsHour, Time.com and The Weather Channel. Before joining Climate Central, Dr. Cullen served as The Weather Channel’s first on-air climate expert and helped create Forecast Earth, the first weekly television series to focus on issues related to climate change and the environment. Prior to that Dr. Cullen worked as a research scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, CO.

The last bastion of climate science deniers – the pipeline.

They deny the reality of the missing AGW hot-spot signature.

They deny the reality of the latest ocean cooling trend

    They deny climate science.

    They deny reality.

The catastrophic global warming they so desperately cling to exists only in the pipeline of a parallel universe they create to avoid facing reality.

They’ve plunged down the pipeline of a climatic Stargate SG-1. Notably the TV series expands upon many Ancient Earth mythologies such as Egyptian mythology, Norse mythology, and Arthurian legend.

And now another legend, this time Modern Earth mythology.

    The climate pipeline Earthgate EG-1.

    • As our American friends put it, she must be as dumb as a box of hammers when it comes to verbal communications, and this was part of her prepared evidence to the recent ‘discussion’ in which the eminent Dr Lindzen was the token (and frequently patronised) sceptical scientist. I note, too that Dr Mann was one of her Phd supervisors.

    Richard C – very funny!

However, I think this is really making a mountain out of a molehill. She is simply trying to paint a simple picture of “if we do nothing, the rot will slowly set in, and once the rot has set in, it’s there for ever”.

I think the salient point of her quoted statement is the word “urgency”. The alarmists want urgent action to avoid the slippery slope to hellfire. The idea that we should wait and see for a couple more decades is abhorrent to them. The idea that we should gather some reliable data first does not even occur to them. The science is in, apparently. What are you lemmings waiting for? Jump!

A lot of the heat could be distributed to the deep oceans and we don’t know what’s going on there
