The fallacy is strong in that one

Gore: Global warming skeptics are this generation’s racists

One day climate change skeptics will be seen in the same negative light as racists, or so says former Vice President Al Gore.

“My generation asked old people, ‘Explain to me again why it is okay to discriminate against people because their skin color is different?’ And when they couldn’t really answer that question with integrity, the change really started.”

The former vice president recalled how society succeeded in marginalizing racists and said climate change skeptics must be defeated in the same manner.

To apply this reasoning to global warming is wicked. Listen carefully, Al, for your fallacy is strong.

Climate change sceptics don’t make unreasonable assertions which can be characterised as bias or discrimination. They do ask reasonable questions based on observations but alarmists like Gore refuse to answer them.

They ask questions, such as “why is the global temperature not rising as you predicted?” “Why are global sea levels not rising as you predicted?” “Why do you say you cannot account for the late-20th century warming unless you allow for GHG warming, when the existence of cosmic-ray moderated levels of cloudiness has been demonstrated?” “Why do you say the oceans heat energy is building up, when their temperature is not rising?”

When Bogusky questioned the analogy, asking if the scientific reasoning behind climate change skeptics might throw a wrench into the good and evil comparison with racism, Gore did not back down.

“I think it’s the same where the moral component is concerned and where the facts are concerned I think it is important to get that out there, absolutely,” Gore said.

Yes, it all depends on the facts.

Al Gore is heading to Antarctica :

Former Vice President Al Gore is heading to Antarctica to highlight the extraordinary changes greenhouse pollution is causing even in our most remote continent. When Gore visited Antarctica in 1988, scientists were predicting it could warm more rapidly than the global average. “This prediction has proven true,” Gore writes. “Today, the West Antarctic Peninsula is warming about four times faster than the global average.”

Al Gore is a wonderful example of the need for religions to ignore physical and contrary evidence to uphold a religious narrative: perhaps Gore sees himself as some sort of Messiah – he certainly has no grasp of scientific method.

Al Gore: Although he was an avid reader who fell in love with scientific and mathematical theories,[23] he did not do well in science classes in college, and avoided taking math.[22] His grades during his first two years put him in the lower one-fifth of the class. During his sophomore year, he reportedly spent much of his time watching television, shooting pool, and occasionally smoking marijuana.[22][23] In his junior and senior years, he became more involved with his studies, earning As and Bs.[22] In his senior year, he took a class with oceanographer and global warming theorist Roger Revelle, who sparked Gore’s interest in global warming and other environmental issues.

Based on readings from more than 30,000 measuring stations, the data was issued last week without fanfare by the Met Office and the University of East Anglia Climatic Research Unit. It confirms that the rising trend in world temperatures ended in 1997. Check the link..

You are right, Andy, there is really no comparison, as rent boys merely engage in honest prostitution that harms no-one (one hopes).

You and your fellow intellectual prostitutes, however, are helping drive all humanity into a world of suffering, war and want.

You and the likes of the NZ Climate Scam Coalition are working assiduously to bring about an inexorable but unnecessary tragedy that will be much like Hitler’s dreams of a “Thousand Year Reich”, only worse.

What would you do if you had a conscience, Andy?

    My response – hilarious!!

It’s getting better actually. Now we have the threat of nuclear holocaust caused by global elites scrabbling for power as the world degrades under CO2 concentrations not seen since the PETM.

      Phew..

Painting, Taylor et al are apparently in some kind of contest to out-hyperbolize each other – Taylor leading the pack at the moment with “nuclear holocaust”.

The other contest being smear associations – Taylor leading that one too with “rent boys”.

Rob’s venting about gravity was pretty good too. I like to think I know a bit about maths and physics but that stuff was beyond me.

Elsewhere there’s been the headline grabbing weather parallel with a baseball hitter on steroids (Meehl, Masters, McKibbon etc).

But that’s all a bit tame really, Hot Topic regulars are blazing new frontiers of hyperbole. Their latest tranche will be hard to top but I wonder where they can go with it now?

Not quite “nuclear holocaust” or “rent boys” stuff but this is more insidious I think:-

Nationwide Climate ‘Preach-In’ To Target Broad Faith-Group Congregations

An upcoming national climate change ‘Preach-In’ is part of a series of climate communications activities aimed at informing and enlisting involvement of faith groups and individual congregations in addressing climate change.

      [Check out the snipped BS]

Religious Tenets ‘Compelling’ Action on Climate

In that same Interfaith video, Rabbi Melanie Aron, of Congregation Shir Hadash, in Los Gatos, Ca., equates a do-nothing approach to climate change to a person’s sitting by a pool and reading while a child in sight is drowning. “You would be seriously condemned,” she says, “but today, many of us are standing idly by while the lives of the children of the future are being seriously threatened.”

      [More astounding BS, then….]

Science/Religious Differences Bridged by Common Values

NRPE acknowledges on its site frequent differences between religion and science, but says “stewardship, justice, protection of the weak, inter-generational duty, and prudence are universal values when responsible scientific study has identified grave risk.”

Anderson said he regrets that climate change “is often portrayed as a scientific or political debate.” Instead, he and the NRPE members see it as “a fact of life,” and one requiring moral and ethical responses. That “compels us to respond to climate change,” Anderson said.

      [Yet more BS and finally…..]

      ‘Skeptics’ Also Targeting Faith Groups

Organizations and interests deeply concerned about climate change and its impacts are not the only ones reaching out to faith groups. A distinctly different take comes from the climate-contrarian Cornwall Alliance, headquartered in Virginia, not far from Washington, D.C.

Using some of the same wording, biblical passages, and emotional tugs — the future of our children, concern for the poor, equity — this group reaches radically different conclusions. It holds, for instance, that “Earth and its ecosystems — created by God’s intelligent design and infinite power and sustained by His faithful providence — are robust, resilient, self-regulating, and self-correcting, admirably suited for human flourishing, and displaying His glory. Earth’s climate system is no exception.”

“We deny that carbon dioxide — essential to all plant growth — is a pollutant,” the group says, maintaining that efforts to control CO2 emissions would cost far more than the benefits might justify. Warning of what it calls “one of the greatest deceptions of our day,” the group speaks darkly of a need for “resisting the green dragon.”

Methinks the National Religious Partnership for the Environment (NRPE) has as its godhead, a “green dragon”

I have tried to make a few points on the latest Hansen thread on HT that his statements that most of the global warming of the 20th Century contracts their own Skeptical Science, but this has provoked a series of “snipping”.

More snipping there than a busy day at a vastectomy clinic.
